HOW TO USE HISTORICAL DATA TO IMPROVE YOUR BETTING SUCCESS RATE
PICK YOUR DATA SOURCES IN 60 SECONDS
Open three browser tabs. First tab: go to FBref.com. Second tab: open Understat.com. Third tab: bookmark Flashscore.com. These sites give you raw match stats, expected goals, and live score histories. No fluff, just numbers. Save all three to your bookmarks bar now.
GRAB THE RIGHT TOOLS BEFORE YOU START
Download Google Sheets or Excel. Install the “Power Query” add-in if you use Excel. Open a new sheet. Name it “World Cup Bets 2026”. Create four tabs: Fixtures, Teams, Players, Trends. This sheet will be your command center. Do this before you read another word.
SCRAPE WORLD CUP HISTORY IN ONE CLICK

Sort your “Teams” tab by xG difference (actual goals minus xG). Teams with a positive xG difference score more than they “should”. These teams have clinical finishers or lucky bounces. Bet on them to win or cover spreads. Mark them with a star in your sheet.
FIND PLAYERS WHO CREATE CHANCES UNDER PRESSURE
Go to the “Players” tab. Sort by key passes per 90 minutes. Filter for players with 1.5+ key passes per game. Cross-reference with their pass completion % under pressure (available on Understat). Players with 75%+ completion under pressure are gold. Bet on their teams to win or score first.
TRACK TEAM TRENDS IN KNOCKOUT STAGES
Create a new tab called “Knockout Trends”. List every knockout match from the last three World Cups. Note which teams scored first, which held leads, and which came back from deficits. Teams that score first in knockouts win 70% of the time. Bet on the team that scores first in every knockout match.
USE HEAD-TO-HEAD HISTORY TO SPOT PATTERNS
On Flashscore, search for “Head-to-Head” between two teams. Look for matches in the last five years. Note the average goals, clean sheets, and red cards. If Team A beats Team B 3-0 twice in a row, bet on Team A to win or cover the spread. Write these patterns in your “Trends” tab.
BUILD A PRE-MATCH CHECKLIST IN 10 MINUTES
Open a new doc. Write these five questions:
1. Does the team overperform xG?
2. Do they have a player with 1.5+ key passes per game?
3. Do they score first in 60%+ of matches?
4. Do they have a positive head-to-head record?
5. Do they win 70%+ of knockout matches when leading?
Answer yes to at least three before placing a bet.
SET UP LIVE BETTING ALERTS FOR IN-GAME EDGES
Download the Bet365 or 1xBet app. Enable push notifications for live matches. Set alerts for:
– Teams with 60%+ possession but no goals.
– Teams with 3+ shots on target in the first 20 minutes.
– Teams that concede first but have 2+ key players on the pitch.
Bet on these teams to score next or win in-play.
CALCULATE VALUE BETS USING HISTORICAL ODDS
Go to OddsPortal.com. Search for past World Cup matches. Note the average odds for teams that:

TRACK YOUR BETS LIKE A PRO
Create a “Bets” tab in your sheet. Record:
– Date, match, bet type, stake, odds, result.
– xG difference, key passes, possession % at the time of bet.
Review every Sunday. Cut strategies that lose. Double down on winners.
FIND UNDERDOG EDGES WITH ADVANCED FILTERS
Sort your “Teams” tab by xG against (expected goals conceded). Teams with low xG against but high actual goals conceded are unlucky. They’re due for a clean sheet. Bet on them to keep a clean sheet or win at higher odds.
USE PLAYER INJURIES TO PREDICT TEAM PERFORMANCE
Check team news 24 hours before kickoff. If a team’s top key passer is out, their xG drops by 0.5. If their best defender is injured, their xG against rises by 0.3. Adjust your bets accordingly. Never bet on a team missing their top two key players.
EXPLOIT THE “FIRST GOAL” MARKET WITH DATA
Teams that score first win 70% of World Cup matches. Bet on the team with:
– Higher xG.
– More key passes per game.
– Better head-to-head record.
